While preparing for the shoot, David Jonsson (who played Taylor) lost 13 kg.

For authenticity, the filmmakers worked closely with the charity Switchback, founded to help former prisoners and their rehabilitation.

Initially, Josh and Benny Safdie were set to direct the film, but over time they left the project to make the thriller Uncut Gems (2019), and the project was shelved for several years.

Real phone footage shot by prisoners was recreated for the film.

On the neck of the protagonist, played by Tom Blyth, the name "Sofia" can be read. This is a reference to the film's producer named Sophia Gibber.
