Stories from the set

The film is based on the book The Chinaman by Stephen Leather, published in 1992.

Nick Cassavetes was offered the chance to direct the film.

The character played by Pierce Brosnan is based on Irish politicians Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness (1950-2017). Adams was an activist in the Irish Republican Army movement, although he himself denied membership in the IRA (while many others confirmed his membership). At one time he was the president of the party «Sinn Féin», the political wing of the IRA, and in that capacity played an important role in the peaceful resolution of the armed conflict in Northern Ireland.
