What it’s about
Munir, a Syrian writer exiled in Germany, struggles with loneliness, creative block, and shortness of breath. He keeps in touch with his mother and sister only through the internet. One day he travels to a small island in the North Sea and checks into a guesthouse run by a widow and her gruff son. He has brought a loaded pistol, contemplating suicide, but the quiet landscape and the hostess's presence begin to revive his will to live.
What hooks you
Director Ameer Fakher Eldin, who also wrote the screenplay, draws on a cast including Sibel Kekilli, Georges Khabbaz, Tom Wlaschiha, and Laura Landauer. The film competed for the Golden Bear at the 2025 Berlin International Film Festival.
