About the film

Marriage material.

What it’s about

On the outskirts of a coastal village, a fisherwoman endures constant ridicule from her neighbours. Tired of their small-mindedness, she asks the local basket weaver to make her a husband out of wicker. Her attachment to this unusual creation sparks outrage and chaos in the conservative community.

What hooks you

Olivia Colman plays the fisherwoman, with Peter Dinklage as the basket weaver. The film is based on a short story, and its blend of fantasy and comedy promises an offbeat take on romance and social norms.

Who it’s for

It is worth a look for anyone who enjoys darkly comic fantasies that poke fun at small-town hypocrisy. Those who appreciate tales of unconventional love and the absurd will find its premise intriguing.
