What it’s about
A man appears in a Los Angeles diner, insisting he has come from the future. He warns that an uncontrolled artificial intelligence will soon enslave humanity and tries to recruit the customers to stop it. When they dismiss him as a lunatic, he threatens to blow himself up along with everyone present, forcing a group of reluctant volunteers to join his quest.
What hooks you
Gore Verbinski directs a cast led by Sam Rockwell as the time-traveling stranger, with Haley Lu Richardson as Ingrid and Michael Peña as Mark. The screenplay began as a pilot about a student trying to connect with classmates before shifting focus to a man from the future.
Who it’s for
It suits viewers who enjoy absurdist comedy mixed with science fiction, where an unstable hero drags ordinary people into a high-stakes adventure. The blend of diner setting, time travel, and AI threat offers playful tension and offbeat humor.

All 10Trivia
- Initially, screenwriter Matthew Robinson wrote the script for the pilot episode of a television project called Don't Trust Anyone Under 30 about a student's attempts to get closer to other students. Realizing that he did not have enough material for a TV series, Robinson shifted the script's focus from the student to a man from the future, and over time he ended up with a feature film script. Producer Erwin Stoff offered the script to Gore Verbinski, who liked it, and the script went into production, with Verbinski becoming the director of the project.
