About the film
It's Christmas Eve and we are going to go celebrate being young and being alive.
What it’s about
Iris Simpkins writes a wedding column for a London newspaper and lives in a cosy cottage in the English countryside. She is in love with a man who loves someone else. Across the Atlantic in Los Angeles, Amanda Woods runs a successful advertising agency that makes film trailers, but she has just found out her boyfriend is cheating on her. Both women, strangers to each other, are hurting and need a break. They meet on a home exchange website and agree to swap houses for two weeks over Christmas. Iris flies to sunny California and moves into Amanda's modern home, while Amanda arrives in a snow-covered English village.
What hooks you
Nancy Meyers directs Cameron Diaz as Amanda and Kate Winslet as Iris. Jude Law and Jack Black play the men they meet. The cast includes Eli Wallach, who was 90 during filming, as Arthur. The film won an MTV Movie Award nomination for Best Kiss in 2007. A scene shows Amanda singing "Mr. Brightside" by The Killers. In a DVD shop, Jack Black's character picks up "The Graduate", and Dustin Hoffman can be seen in the background.
Who it’s for
It is a good pick for those who enjoy warm romantic comedies with a Christmas setting, stories about starting over, and the charm of both English villages and Los Angeles.

All 9Trivia
- Cameron Diaz's character, having arrived at the home exchange house, performs the song "Mr. Brightside" by the American rock band The Killers with a glass in her hand.
- When Iris looks through Amanda's movie collection, you can see the film Enigma (2001), in which Kate Winslet starred.
- Nancy Meyers always plays music for the actors on set that will later be heard in a particular scene, so they can better feel the moment.
- Eli Wallach, who played Arthur Abbott, was 90 years old at the time of filming.
- In the DVD store, Jack Black's character takes the 1967 film "The Graduate" from the shelf and shows it to Winslet's character, while Dustin Hoffman stands behind them casting sidelong glances. D. Hoffman played the lead role in that film.
