A Quiet Place: Day One

What it’s about

Sam, a hospice patient from the New York suburbs, is on a group outing to a puppet theatre in Manhattan when alien creatures attack. The monsters are blind but hear everything, so silence becomes the only defence. Rather than flee, Sam decides to walk to her native Harlem for a pizza, accompanied by her cat Frodo. On the way, Frodo meets a terrified English law student, and the two humans join forces to navigate a city where any sound can kill.

What hooks you

Lupita Nyong'o plays Sam. The film was also nominated for Best Horror Film. Production recreated New York's Chinatown in London and used closed London Underground stations for subway scenes. Originally, Jeff Nichols was set to direct, but Paramount offered him another project. The film is a prequel to the 'A Quiet Place' franchise, detailing the origins of the creatures.

Who it’s for

It suits viewers who like horror that relies on suspense and the dread of making a sound. It will appeal to those who enjoy character-driven survival stories and the tension of an alien invasion seen from ground level.
