About the film
What it’s about
In 2003, twelve-year-old Ben is sent to a summer water polo camp. He is drawn into the bullying of Eli, a boy with acne whom the other campers treat as contagious. They avoid touching him and scrub themselves if they do, calling it 'the plague.' Ben is torn between fitting in and feeling for the victim.
What hooks you
Directed by Charlie Polinger, the film stars Everett Blunck as Ben and Kayo Martin as Jake. It was nominated for the Caméra d'Or at Cannes and for Best Independent Film at the Saturn Awards.
Who it’s for
It will appeal to those who like psychological tension built on everyday cruelty and the moral dilemmas of adolescence. Viewers drawn to independent cinema with a clinical, body-horror edge will find its discomforting atmosphere compelling.
