About the film
What happened to Katie?
What it’s about
Charlie Cannon, an American journalist in Cairo, loses his young daughter Katie without a trace. Eight years later, the family lives in New Mexico when Katie is found—inside an ancient sarcophagus, mute and in poor condition. The reunion that should bring relief instead opens a door to something terrible.
What hooks you
Lee Cronin, who directed 'Evil Dead Rise', was approached by producer James Wan after that film's success to make a new mummy movie. Cronin agreed but chose a more horror-focused angle. He drew on personal grief—his mother died the day he finished 'Evil Dead Rise'—and based the mummy's look on bog bodies he saw at the National Museum of Ireland. Filming took place in Almería, Spain, and the mummy's makeup used flesh-toned latex and paper-like materials.
Who it’s for
It is a good pick for those who like slow-burning supernatural horror where grief and ancient evil intertwine, and for viewers drawn to family-centered dread with a monstrous, visceral presence.
