Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett were working on a film about sisters, which would have starred Kathryn Newton and Samara Weaving, when representatives from the studio Searchlight Pictures approached them with an offer to make a sequel to their own thriller Ready or Not (2019). According to Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, casting Sarah Michelle Gellar in the role of Ursula meant they had to come up with something new in terms of weapons, because in her time Gellar as Buffy Summers in the series Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003) had used virtually every type of weapon.

Kathryn Newton, who played Faith, is a fan of Sarah Michelle Gellar and her work on the series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1997-2003). Newton found a photo of Gellar from the first episode of the project and dressed the same way Gellar had once been dressed.

Even before filming began, Samara Weaving suffered a back injury, so she couldn't even walk. She fully recovered and was back to normal only two days before the shooting period began. The producers were worried whether the actress would manage, but she took painkillers, and her husband Jimmy Warden was constantly by her side, so everything worked out.

According to directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, over 1,230 liters of fake blood were used in the filming of the movie (including 530 liters that went into filming just the finale). For one of the scenes, the special effects department built 14 cannons that fired fake blood.
