During filming, Nicole Grimaudo, who played Gia, had almost no command of English. She memorized her lines by ear, with the help of an interpreter present on set.

For the film's advertising campaign, screenwriters John and Patrick Kinnane decided to create an online Matt. Their colleague Kevin James spent several months before the film's release posing as Matt on the internet and went to baseball games in character. A photo of James in the stands in character as Matt went viral on social media.
