About the film
All roads lead to (being left in) Rome.
What it’s about
Matt Taylor has paid for a lavish Italian wedding and a honeymoon, but his fiancée leaves him at the altar. Instead of going home, he decides to take the trip by himself, exploring the country and trying to make sense of what happened. His solitude is interrupted when he meets Gia, a charming café owner.
What hooks you
Kevin James plays Matt, with Alyson Hannigan as Meghan and Nicole Grimaudo as Gia. The film is directed by Charles Kinnane and Daniel Kinnane, and the screenplay is by Kevin James and John Kinnane. During production, Grimaudo, who spoke little English, learned her lines by ear with a translator's help. For the promotional campaign, James spent months posing as Matt online and at baseball games, and a photo of him in character went viral.
Who it’s for
It will appeal to those who like romantic comedies with a bittersweet edge, stories of starting over in beautiful places, and humour that comes from awkward situations rather than slapstick.
