About the film

Wedding of the Year

What it’s about

Charlie and Emma are a week from their wedding, deep in preparations: dance rehearsals, vendor meetings, drink tastings. At a dinner with friends, Emma shares a secret from her past. The revelation shakes Charlie, who begins to doubt whether he truly knows the woman he is about to marry.

What hooks you

Zendaya and Robert Pattinson play the couple. Director Kristoffer Borgli, who also wrote the script, screened Paul Mazursky's "Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice" and Lars von Trier's "Melancholia" for the cast and crew, and asked the leads to watch Ingmar Bergman's "The Passion of Anna".

Who it’s for

It is worth a look for anyone who enjoys sharp, provocative comedies about relationships under pressure, and for those drawn to stories where a single confession unravels the certainty of a seemingly perfect future.

Trivia

  1. Before filming began, director and screenwriter Kristoffer Borgli arranged for the film's creative team to watch Paul Mazursky's comedy-drama "Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice" (1969) and Lars von Trier's sci-fi drama "Melancholia" (2011). He also asked Robert Pattinson and Zendaya (who played Charlie and Emma, respectively) to watch the drama "The Passion of Anna" (Ingmar Bergman, 1969), whose poster hung on their characters' living room wall.
