What it’s about
A Danish king, warned that his daughter will marry a common soldier, locks the princess in a tower, executes all storytellers and prophets, and sends soldiers to war. The kingdom falls under the sway of a cunning chief of police who covets the princess, commands foolish gendarmes, and secretly wields magical artifacts: a magic well and a carillon. Soldier Hans, a kind itinerant storyteller, opens his magic box of puppets and, with his audience, creates a new fairytale in which loyalty, friendship, love, and song can overcome the strongest spells.
What hooks you
Andjei Petras directs, co-writes, composes, produces, and appears as the Storyteller. Aleksey Demidov plays Soldier Hans, Anton Adasinsky is the Chief of Police, and Olga Lapshina is the Witch. The production blends real puppet theater, songs, dance numbers, and 'woodpunk' robot dogs.
