Biography

Born in Alma-Ata, Kazakh SSR, USSR. He was drawn to acting in the theatre from an early age. In 1986 he graduated with honors from the Faculty of Philosophy at Leningrad State University. In 1992 he graduated with honors from LGITMiK, in Professor M.V. Sulimov's course, specializing in directing and acting. Since 1992 he has worked at the Saint Petersburg Youth Theatre on the Fontanka. Besides the Youth Theatre on the Fontanka, Sergey Barkovsky can be seen on the stages of Saint Petersburg theatres: the Andrey Mironov Russian Entreprise, the Akimov Comedy Theatre, the Pushkin School, and Aleko.

Over the years he has performed at Saint Petersburg theatres: Komedianty, the G.A. Tovstonogov Academic Bolshoi Drama Theatre, Farsy, Na Liteynom, the XXI Theatre, the Interior Theatre, and the Pushkin Russian Academic Drama Theatre. He is the permanent captain of the Youth Theatre's football team. Honored Artist of the Russian Federation (2005).

In 1992 he joined the troupe of the Molodezhny Theater on the Fontanka. In parallel, he performed in productions of the Entreprise "Silver Age", the Theater "Farsy", the Alexandrinsky Theater, the Theater "Priyut Komedianta", the creative association "Art-Piter", the Pushkin Theater Center, and others.

In 1986 he graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy of Leningrad State University, and in 1992 from the acting and directing course at the Leningrad State Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinematography (M.V. Sulimov's workshop).
