Ahmed El Gendy began his career as an actor, appearing in the film "Wahed min an-Nas" ("One of the People"), which starred Karim Abdel Aziz and Mona Shalaby. Ahmed also worked as an assistant director on the same production after graduating from the Film Institute. This was followed by his participation as an assistant director on the film "Zarf Tarek" ("Urgent Circumstances"), which starred Ahmed Helmy. After participating in these works, Ahmed directed the sitcom "Ahmed Itgawiz Mona" ("Ahmed Married Mona"), as well as several films such as "Hawish eli Waaa Minak", "Etsh Dabur", "Tir Enta", and "La Tarago wa la Istislam".

Ahmed's son, Mahmoud El Gendy (born in 1980), also worked in directing and participated in writing the scripts for several films, such as "Tir Enta". Mahmoud's works are unique in that the comedy is built on sarcastic remarks about popular culture. He also directed several works that were parodies of other films.
