Biography

Billy Harris (born 12 April 1994) is an English actor. He plays the role of Colin Hughes in all seasons of the Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso. From 2014 to 2017, Harris studied acting at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. After graduating, he performed in numerous theatre roles. Harris has cited Marlon Brando as his inspiration in the acting profession. He imitated Brando, performing his speech from Joseph L. Mankiewicz's film Julius Caesar at an unsuccessful audition, and this helped him find his own voice as an actor. He has also expressed admiration for actor Anthony Hopkins and his philosophy of preparing for a role. Harris started out in commercials, in particular for Nike with Kevin Durant. He then had several small roles in short films and web series. Harris's first major role was that of Callum McGregor in the stage adaptation of the Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy series of novels by author Malorie Blackman, CBE.

Harris appears in the Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso as the Welsh winger Colin Hughes. In the first and second seasons he was part of the recurring cast, and in the third season he was promoted to a series regular. He received praise for his portrayal of Hughes when it was revealed that the character is gay, especially from LGBTQ+ fans. Ted Lasso co-creator Brendan Hunt said: "Billy was really amazing in that role," as the series discusses topics such as male vulnerability and homosexuality, which remain taboo in the world of professional football.

In 2022, Harris had a small role in the BBC One series The Outlaws. Among his future projects is voice work in an animated show by screenwriter and former colleague Elliot Blake.

Harris is from Southend, Essex, and has a sister. He supports the football club Manchester United.
