Colin Firth
British theatre, film and television actor.
Having begun his career in 1984, Firth managed to draw the attention of world film critics only in 1995, playing Mr Darcy in the television adaptation of Jane Austen's novel Pride and Prejudice. Firth's work in the film A Single Man, where he played the homosexual professor George Falconer, seeking the meaning of life after the death of his lover in a car crash, was marked by numerous prizes and awards; in particular, the actor became a BAFTA award laureate and a Volpi Cup winner for Best Actor. In 2011 Firth received an Academy Award statuette for the role of King George VI, trying to overcome a stutter, in the film The King's Speech.

He received his acting training at the Drama Centre London, where he also made his stage debut in Julian Mitchell's Another Country, replacing Rupert Everett in the role of Guy Bennett. There he became acquainted with the Stanislavski system, the essence of which he defines in these words: "Awaken your own demons in order to show the character's emotions as your own."

Colin spent the first four years of his life in Nigeria, where his grandparents served in a Methodist mission, then a year in St. Louis. After returning to England, the Firth family moved to Winchester, to the town of Montgomery, where Colin attended Alamein School. Colin calls his years of study there unhappy.

Colin Firth has a sister, Kate, and a younger brother, Jonathan, who also became an actor.
