Interesting facts

At the age of 15, a fight occurred between Bowie and his friend George Underwood over a girl: Underwood, who was wearing a ring on his finger, punched Bowie in the left eye, forcing him to leave school for four months so that doctors, fearing he would lose his sight, could perform a series of operations and prevent blindness. The doctors were unable to fully restore his vision; as a result of the injury, Bowie developed defective depth perception. Bowie stated that although he can see with his injured eye, color perception is lost (a brown background is constantly present). The pupil of the injured eye became mydriatic, creating the impression that David had different-colored eyes. Despite the fight, Underwood and Bowie remained good friends, and Underwood created illustrations for Bowie's early albums.
