David Bowditch Morse is an American actor. He is a nominee for the Emmy and Tony awards. Morse was born in Beverly, Massachusetts, into the family of schoolteacher Jacqueline and sales manager Charles Morse. He has three younger sisters. He received his middle name, Bowditch, in honor of the mathematician Nathaniel Bowditch. Morse gained fame for his role as Dr. Jack "Boomer" Morrison in the medical drama series “St. Elsewhere” (1982-1988), after which he appeared in roles in such films as “12 Monkeys” (1995), “The Long Kiss Goodnight” (1996), “The Rock” (1996), “Contact” (1997), “The Negotiator” (1998), “The Green Mile” (1999), “Dancer in the Dark” (2000), and “Disturbia” (2007).

From 2006 to 2007, Morse had a guest role as Detective Michael Tritter in the drama series “House,” which brought him an Emmy nomination in the category “Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.” A year later, he received a second Emmy nomination for his role as George Washington in the miniseries “John Adams.” Morse gained his greatest fame on the theatrical stage for his role in the off-Broadway production “How I Learned to Drive,” for which he won the Drama Desk and Obie awards. In 2018, he received a Tony nomination for his role in the play “The Iceman Cometh.”
