Isabelle Anne Madeleine Huppert (born 16 March 1953) is a French actress. She has been called "one of the best actresses in the world." She is known for her roles as cold and disdainful characters devoid of morality. Huppert has been nominated for a record sixteen César Awards and has won two of them. Among other awards are six nominations for the Lumières Award (more than anyone else) and four wins. In 2020, The New York Times ranked her second on its list of the greatest actors of the 21st century.

Huppert received her first César nomination for the film Aloise (1975). In 1978, she won the BAFTA Award for Most Promising Newcomer for the film The Lacemaker. She later won the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival twice—for the films Violette Nozière (1978) and The Piano Teacher (2001)—and also received the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival twice—for the films A Tale of Women (1988) and La Cérémonie (1995). Among her other French films are Loulou (1980), La Séparation (1994), 8 Women (2002), Gabrielle (2005), Amour (2012), and Things to Come (2016). Huppert is one of the most prolific actresses in international cinema; she has worked in Italy, Russia, Central Europe, and Asia. Among her English-language films are Heaven's Gate (1980), The Bedroom Window (1987), I Heart Huckabees (2004), The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby (2013), Louder Than Bombs (2015), Greta (2018), and Frankie (2019).

In 2016, Huppert received international recognition for her role in the film Elle, for which she won the Golden Globe, Independent Spirit, and a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress. She was also honored with the Best Actress Award from the National Society of Film Critics, the New York Film Critics Circle, and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association—for the films Elle and Things to Come.

Huppert is also an active stage actress. She is the most frequently nominated actress for the Molière Award, with seven nominations. In 1996, she made her London stage debut in the title role of the play Mary Stuart, and in 2005, she made her New York stage debut in the production 4.48 Psychosis. In 2009, she performed again in New York, in Heiner Müller's play Quartet, and in 2014, she appeared in the Sydney Theatre Company's production of The Maids. In 2019, Huppert played the lead role in Florian Zeller's play The Mother at the Atlantic Theater Company in New York.
