Biography

Judy Reyes is an American television actress, best known for her role as nurse Carla Espinosa in the series Scrubs. Over her career, Reyes has appeared in several dozen television shows. She made her debut in 1992 in an episode of Law & Order, and over the following decade played small roles in major series such as NYPD Blue, The Sopranos, and Oz. On the big screen, Reyes's appearances were sporadic, and her only significant role was in Martin Scorsese's film Bringing Out the Dead (1999), where she played a nurse. Judy Reyes is best known for her role as nurse Carla Espinosa in the NBC and ABC sitcom Scrubs. She appeared on the show from 2001 to 2009, across eight seasons. Between her work on the sitcom, Reyes appeared in several television films, mostly for Lifetime.

Her most prominent role was in the 2008 television film Little Girl Lost, based on a true story, in which Reyes appeared alongside Ana Ortiz, her future co-star on Devious Maids. After Scrubs, she appeared in episodes of Medium, Off the Map, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. In 2012, Reyes landed one of the main roles in Devious Maids. The pilot episode was originally filmed for ABC, but the network did not greenlight the series, and shortly afterward the cable network Lifetime became interested in the project, ultimately picking it up in June 2012. The series premiered in June 2013.
