Biography

John Christopher McGinley is an American actor, producer, and screenwriter, best known for his role as Dr. Perry Cox in the NBC comedy Scrubs and Sergeant Red O'Neill in Oliver Stone's film Platoon. He appears in six of Stone's films.

John C. McGinley was born on August 3, 1959, in New York, USA. He grew up in Millburn, New Jersey. Deciding to become an actor, he devoted himself entirely to achieving this goal. John's acting career began when he was discovered by Oliver Stone's casting director, who was observing a production of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, in which John Turturro was then performing. On the day the director came, Turturro received an offer to shoot a film, and, being his understudy, John went on stage in his place. The directors were so impressed that they recommended Stone offer the young man a role. Oliver Stone offered John a small role in his film Platoon. But at the very beginning of filming, actor John Spencer dropped out, and McGinley received his role — the fourth most significant in the film. After Platoon, he worked with Oliver Stone four more times.

McGinley has appeared in more than 60 films and several television series, such as Scrubs, The Practice, and Frasier. In addition, he is also a writer and producer.
