Veteran actor Kevin L. Johnson can be seen on both television and film, but he is best known for his role as "Sam Dermody" in the hit Netflix series "Ozark" starring Jason Bateman and Laura Linney. What initially began as a two-episode role in the first season led to Johnson playing "Sam" in every additional season, including the fourth and final. Johnson will soon appear as "Eric" in the Netflix series "Florida Man," executive produced by Bateman, and will be a guest star in the cult series "Stranger Things." Johnson fell in love with acting while studying at Clemson University. As an assignment for his newly declared English major, Kevin had to watch "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum." The grand production made such a strong impression on him that the next day he signed up for acting classes for the following semester. After he received some formal acting training that helped the self-proclaimed introvert come out of his shell, Johnson gained the confidence to audition for his first role at Clemson. Although the audition did not lead to getting the role, Kevin became part of the technical crew, deepening his knowledge of production.

Johnson soon landed the lead role of Sam, a pickle maker looking for a sweetheart in "Crossing Delancey" at the Clemson Little Theatre, before playing Oswald in a production of Shakespeare's "King Lear" in the park. Other theater work includes the lead role of Willy Wonka in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" at the Easley Foothills Playhouse, Bardolph in "Henry V" at the Brooks Theatre at Clemson University, and Wally in "The 1940s Radio Hour" at the Clemson Little Theatre. Kevin also discovered he could sing while attending auditions in college. Although his mother was a country singer, Johnson did not try out his own voice until he checked out a recording of the "Urinetown" cast in the library to prepare for an audition.

Kevin graduated from Clemson University with a degree in English and a minor in advertising before finding an agent. He then began getting roles in commercials, including the North Carolina state lottery and Burger King, as well as numerous short films. Johnson got his first television role in the hit series "One Tree Hill," an audition he almost did not attend. He then got his first role in the film "My Redneck Roots" and his first lead role in the film "Destiny Road."

His television work includes "Banshee" on Cinemax, "Reckless" on CBS, "Finding Carter" on MTV, "The Resident" on FOX, "Greenleaf" on OWN, and "If Loving You Is Wrong" on OWN. His additional film work includes "Prisoners" with Jake Gyllenhaal, "Careful What You Wish For" with Nick Jonas, "American Animals" with Evan Peters, and "Blue Ridge" with Jonathan Schaech.
