What it’s about

Martin Byrde, a financial adviser, relocates his wife Wendy and their children from Chicago to a small resort town in the Missouri Ozarks. His money-laundering for a drug cartel has gone wrong, and now he must clean a huge sum within five years while keeping his family safe.

Jason Bateman and Laura Linney play Martin and Wendy Byrde, with Julia Garner as Ruth Langmore. The series earned seven major awards, including three Emmys and three Screen Actors Guild Awards. Screenwriter Bill Dubuque drew on his own teenage years working at a lake in Missouri, giving the setting a lived-in feel.

  2. The series was filmed on the shores of Lanier Lake and Allatoona Lake near Acworth in the state of Georgia, although the story is set on the Ozark Plateau in the state of Missouri.
  3. One of the screenwriters, Bill Dubuque, is a native of St. Louis in the state of Missouri, and as a teenager he worked at a lake, so the series is to some extent based on his memories.
