Biography
Michael Herbig (born April 29, 1968 in Munich) is a German comedian, film director, actor, voice actor and writer. His nickname "Bully" (in German usually associated with the Volkswagen "Bully" rather than the English word) has become an integral part of his stage name as a comedian — Michael Bully Herbig.
His career began in 1992 with regular radio appearances (more than 800), which led to appearances on various TV shows. He achieved widespread fame as a writer, actor and director of the comedy show "Bullyparade". On the show he was the host, while his close friend Rick Kavanian, Christian Tramitz and Diana Herold appeared as a dancer and bit-part actress in the sketches. The show was notable for its many different themes, including stereotypical gay archetypes in a Star Trek parody, an homage to Westerns and to the Austrian royal Elisabeth of Bavaria, known as Sissi. On the show he let viewers vote on which theme would form the basis of each of his films based on the show's characters. The first of these, "Der Schuh des Manitu" ("The Shoe of Manitou", 2001), was seen by more than 11.7 million people — one of the most successful German films to date. His second film, "(T)Raumschiff Surprise – Periode 1" (2004), was also a commercial success, cementing his career.
On January 7, 2008, Variety reported that Herbig was set to direct a live-action adaptation of the animated series "Wickie the Viking". The film was released in 2009.
