American actor, director, and producer. Full name: Paul Leonard Newman.
In 1947, Paul Newman enrolled at the Yale University School of Drama. He began his career in television series and on Broadway.
Recognition came in 1956 when he played the boxer Rocky Graziano in the film Somebody Up There Likes Me. He later appeared in such films as The Long, Hot Summer, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Towering Inferno, The Color of Money, Road to Perdition, and others.
Paul Newman was nominated for the Academy Award ten times, eight of them in the Best Actor category. A businessman and public figure, he raised and donated more than 250 million dollars for education and charity as the founder-owner of the large food company Newman's Own. He is also known as a racing driver who won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the IMSA+2.5 class and several U.S. national auto racing championships as a driver, as well as the head and owner of the best team in Champ Car competition.

In the 1960s, Newman used his star status to campaign for the Democratic Party's program aimed at easing racial tensions in America, and as a result ended up on the infamous list of twenty personal enemies of President Nixon.

In 1982, Newman founded the production of various products under the Newman's Own brand (salad dressings, pasta sauce, soft drinks, popcorn). Most of the profit from their sale goes to charitable foundations and to the upkeep of a camp for children and teenagers with cancer, opened in the summer of 1988 in northeastern Connecticut.

Paul Newman died of cancer. In mid-August 2008, Newman, who had been diagnosed with lung cancer, underwent a course of chemotherapy without success and was discharged from the hospital. The actor stated that he wanted to die at home.
