In 1980 he entered the acting faculty of the Novosibirsk Theater School, which later, by decree of the governor, in the autumn of 2003 became the Novosibirsk State Theater Institute. For some time he worked at radio station "Yunition". He worked at the Tomsk Youth Theater. He acted at the Novosibirsk theater "Red Torch". Later he worked as a video editor on the film "What the Dead Man Said". In 1996 Aleksey Maklakov moved to the capital and was enrolled in the troupe of the V. Mayakovsky Theater. He is best known for the role of Warrant Officer Shmatko in the TV series Soldiers.
