Biography
Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu is a French actress and the daughter of French actor Philippe Leroy-Beaulieu.
After spending her childhood in Italy, she went to Paris at 16 to study drama against her parents' advice; her father, actor Philippe Leroy-Beaulieu, especially tried to keep her from a career that followed in his footsteps, but to no avail. After performing on stage, she made her screen debut in Roger Vadim's 1983 film Surprise Party. In 1985 she played her first major screen role (and received a César Award nomination for Most Promising Actress), playing a deranged mother in the film Three Men and a Cradle. The success of Coline Serreau's comedy helped her film career, and a string of roles in costume dramas followed, such as Andrzej Wajda's The Possessed in 1988, Philippe Le Guay's The Two Fragonards, and Robert Enrico and Richard T. Heffron's The French Revolution (Mademoiselle Leroy-Beaulieu played the role of Charlotte Corday in the latter production), whose 1989 release was timed to commemorate the bicentennial of the 1789 revolution.
She played the lead role in the French film Natalia, which was shown at the 1988 Cannes Film Festival.
In the United States, Leroy-Beaulieu first became known for the role of Fauve Mistral in the 1984 miniseries based on Judith Krantz's novel Mistral's Daughter.
