In 1981, Brosnan got a role in the American television series The Manions of America, through which he gained popularity. Brosnan moved with his family to the United States. His fame grew after the NBC detective series Remington Steele. At that time, he was offered the role of James Bond after Roger Moore turned it down. In 1986, Brosnan was offered a role in a Bond film, The Living Daylights, but the terms of his contract with NBC prevented him from accepting the offer. The role went to Timothy Dalton.
