Born on July 11, 1959 in Gries am Brenner, Innsbruck, Tyrol, Austria.

His real surname is Bloeb.

His mother was Italian. From childhood he was seriously involved in music. He studied in the composition department at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. He graduated from the Otto Falckenberg School of Acting in Munich. After graduating, he was an actor in Bavarian theaters. From 1986 he was an actor at the Munich Kammerspiele theater. He worked in Italy with the world-famous theater director Giorgio Strehler (it was at this time that he took the stage pseudonym — his mother's surname — Moretti).
