What it’s about

In a futuristic amusement park styled after the Wild West, android hosts serve guests who can act out any fantasy without consequences. After each encounter, the hosts are repaired and their memories wiped, but some begin to retain fragments of their experiences. As glitches multiply, the androids start to question their reality, setting the stage for a conflict over control of the park and beyond.

What hooks you

The series won Saturn Awards for Best Science Fiction Television Series in 2017 and 2019, and an Emmy in 2018 for Thandiwe Newton's supporting performance as Maeve Millay. The cast includes Evan Rachel Wood as Dolores Abernathy and Ed Harris as the Man in Black. J.J. Abrams, one of the producers, suggested presenting the story from the androids' point of view.

  1. It was J.J. Abrams who suggested presenting the plot of the series from the point of view of the androids rather than the humans.
  2. Due to an editing error, in the robbery scene in episode 1, Armistice first picks up a Winchester Model 1887 shotgun and starts firing it. But in the following shots she continues firing a Winchester Model 1873 rifle, after which she fires the shotgun again. Having used up the shotgun's ammunition, she puts it down and picks up that same rifle.
  3. Quentin Tarantino was approached to direct this remake, but he declined the offer.
  4. This is not the first remake of the film of the same name, which Michael Crichton (1942-2008) directed in 1973 from his own screenplay. In 1980, the CBS television network aired three of the five produced episodes of the series "Beyond Westworld", after which the series was cancelled and removed from the broadcast schedule.
  5. Miranda Otto appeared in the pilot episode of the series, after which she left the project for season 5 of the series "Homeland" (2011). The role of Theresa Cullen went to actress Sidse Babett Knudsen.
  6. Before his death in 2008, Michael Crichton was approached with an offer to write the screenplay for a remake of his own 1973 film, but the offer did not interest him.
