The series was filmed in Chicago. Firehouse 51 is actually number 18. "Molly's Bar," which some characters co-own, is Lottie's Bar in the Bucktown neighborhood.

The scenes in the dining room were filmed both at the firehouse and at the studio. If a door is visible to the left of the stove, it was filmed at the studio. If there is a drinking fountain there instead, filming took place at Firehouse 18.
