About the series

What it’s about

In San Francisco, Quinn Mallory builds a device that opens a doorway to parallel Earths. He shows it to his teacher, Professor Maximilian Arturo, and co-worker Wade Welles, but a power surge and an early departure pull them—along with soul singer Rembrandt "Crying Man" Brown—into another world. The timer that controls their jumps is damaged, so they cannot return home or know which reality comes next. They must adapt to each new world while searching for a way back.

What hooks you

The series ran for five seasons and 87 episodes, earning Saturn Award nominations in 1996, 1997, and 1999. Jerry O'Connell leads the cast as Quinn Mallory, with Cleavant Derricks as Rembrandt Brown and Sabrina Lloyd as Wade Welles. After the first season, FOX Network cancelled the show, but fan protests led to its revival a year later.

Who it’s for

It is a good pick for those who enjoy speculative adventures with a different world each week, and for viewers who like stories about ordinary people coping with extraordinary circumstances.
