Stories from the set

Many students of the Cobra Kai karate school bear the names of members of the film crew.

The actor who played Miyagi, Pat Morita, died at the age of 73 in November 2005, but he is mentioned from time to time in the series. He is even shown in flashbacks. The fifth episode of season 1 is dedicated to the memory of Morita.

While working on the 1984 film The Karate Kid, director John G. Avildsen (1935-2017) shot several hours of karate tournament fights from various angles. The series' crew reviewed footage that had never been used anywhere and inserted these shots into flashbacks.

Most of the students at the Cobra Kai school are either black belts or experienced dancers.

The LaRusso family's house is the same one used as the Walsh family home in the teen drama series Beverly Hills, 90210 (1990-2000).

Miyagi-Do students wear blue, while Cobra Kai students wear red.

Thomas Ian Griffith retired and turned down the offer to play Terry Silver again.
