About the series

What if there were another you?

What it’s about

Howard Silk spends his days at a UN agency passing encrypted messages to a colleague, unaware of what the messages mean or why he does it. He is stuck, overlooked and exploited by bosses who know he will not push back. One day his precise double walks in and announces he will cooperate only with Howard. The agency, it turns out, guards a crossing to a parallel dimension.

What hooks you

J.K. Simmons appears as Howard Silk, while Olivia Williams plays Emily Burton Silk and Harry Lloyd plays Peter Quayle. The series earned a Saturn Award nomination in 2019. Its tagline, "What if there were another you?", points to the central idea.

Who it’s for

It suits viewers who like tension that builds slowly around a bureaucratic setting, and those drawn to stories of identity and the choices that shape a life.

Trivia

  1. Michael Nyqvist was initially cast as Chekhov (this character was later renamed Aldrich). The actor, however, turned out to be busy with other projects, and the role went to Ulrich Thomsen. As for Nyqvist, he died in June 2017 at the age of 56, just as work on the series was underway.
