About the series

The truth is out there.

What it’s about

FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully are assigned to the X-Files, a unit for unsolved cases involving paranormal phenomena. Mulder is convinced that aliens and other unexplained forces are real, while Scully, a scientist, is tasked with applying rigorous analysis to his findings and debunking them. Their opposing worldviews create friction as they confront cases that challenge both of them.

What hooks you

The series won four Saturn Awards, four Golden Globes, two Emmys, and two Screen Actors Guild Awards. Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny lead the cast, with Anderson receiving an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her role as Dana Scully. The show's slogan, "The truth is out there," became a cultural touchstone. Over eleven seasons and 218 episodes, it built a devoted following and spawned a sequel film and a spin-off series.

Who it’s for

It suits viewers who enjoy slow-burning investigations into the unknown, where logical explanations collide with the possibility of alien life and government cover-ups. Those who appreciate character-driven drama with a sceptic-believer dynamic will find much to engage with.

Director Kim Manners
  1. In episode 1x13 "Gender Bender", at the 5th minute, when Mulder examines the corpse, you can see this "corpse" blink.
  2. In the second episode of the second season, the first victim has a tattoo on their arm: the inscription “DMITRY” in Cyrillic. But instead of the Russian letter M, there is an English W. Later, in the photograph that Scully shows Mulder, the mistake is corrected. At the same time, the inscription on the arm and in the photograph differ in that on the arm all the letters are filled in, whereas in the photo the first letter I is only partially filled in.
  3. Mulder's phone number in the series is 555-0199. This number also belongs to the Berman family in the film «American Beauty» (1999). And the same phone number is left by Al Pacino on Russell Crowe's answering machine in the film «The Insider» (1999).
  4. Mulder uses a Glock pistol (in the first season), as well as a Walther in an ankle holster. Scully uses only a Walther PPK/S.
  5. The series is mentioned in Stephen King's book "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon".
  6. Nicholas Lea, who played Alex Krycek starting from the second season, can also be seen in episode 1x13 "Gender Bender," where he appears as one of the victims; Scully and Mulder interrogate him in the hospital at around the 35th minute.
