What it’s about

Gennady Yuryevich Korostelyov passes his days in a small district center, doing a job that gives him no satisfaction. By chance he stumbles on a long-buried family secret: his surname is not his real lineage, for he descends from a visiting colonel who once served in the area. That makes him a Caesar by blood. The discovery shakes him. He throws himself into the history of Ancient Rome and starts seeing himself as his famous namesake. What begins as a joke turns into a serious reinvention: he resolves to change his surname and, with it, his entire existence. He moves to a settlement outside the city and sets about transforming it, convinced that his ambitions could one day reshape the whole country.
