When the role of Preston was offered to Kurt Russell, he immediately became enthusiastic about the idea, but the planned shooting schedule conflicted with work on the second season of the series "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" (2023-). The producers of "Madison River" and Michelle Pfeiffer wanted Russell to play Preston. The entire project was supposed to consist of at least two seasons. Therefore, they decided to shoot the first season without Russell's participation, and a month later begin filming the second season and the missing scenes with Russell's character from season 1.
