Stories from the set

Initially, Klaus was supposed to be French and named François. During the audition, Dee Bradley Baker admitted that he did not speak French very well, so he would read the lines in German. The creators of the animated series liked this so much that the German Klaus replaced the Frenchman François in the plot.

Steve's friend nicknamed Snot is based on Booger from Jeff Kanew's comedy «Revenge of the Nerds» (1984). Booger in that comedy was played by Curtis Armstrong. He also voiced Snot in the animated series.

The Smiths' living room is furnished exactly like Ray Romano's living room from the comedy series «Everybody Loves Raymond» (1996-2005).

Klaus's voice imitates the voice of Peter Lorre (real name Ladislav Löwenstein, 1904-1964), an Austrian and American theater and film actor, director, and screenwriter.
