Nigel es un actor de ascendencia irlandesa que creció en Birmingham. Es más conocido por interpretar al superintendente Ian Buckells, personaje habitual de la serie, en el galardonado drama policial «Line of Duty» de la BBC.

Nigel interpretará a continuación al protagonista Reg en la nueva serie de CBBC «High Hoops», junto a Robert Webb e Isy Suttie, de «Peep Show».
