About the film

Sooner or later, your past catches up to you.

What it’s about

Christopher Robin, now an adult, is caught up in everyday routine. When Winnie the Pooh reappears, the two must go back to the Hundred Acre Wood to find their missing friends and, in the process, regain happiness.

What hooks you

Ewan McGregor plays the title role, with Hayley Atwell as Evelyn Robin and Bronte Carmichael as Madeline Robin. Jim Cummings voices Winnie the Pooh and Tigger. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, and its look combines the familiar Disney character designs with the original illustrations by E. H. Shepard. A dedication in the credits honours composer Jóhann Jóhannsson, who died in 2018.

Who it’s for

It will appeal to those who enjoy gentle family adventures that mix live action with animation, and to anyone who grew up with Winnie the Pooh and wonders what happened to Christopher Robin. It also suits viewers who like stories about rediscovering wonder and the bond between parents and children.

Trivia

  1. The film's depictions of Pooh and his friends combine features of these characters from the Disney cartoons and the stories written by Alan Alexander Milne (1882-1956), as well as the drawings of Ernest Shepard (1879-1976).
  2. Jóhann Jóhannsson was originally set to compose the film's score, but he passed away in 2018 at the age of 48. The end credits include a dedication to Jóhannsson.
  3. The first film in which Owl is voiced by an English actor rather than an American or a Scot speaking with a British accent.
