About the film
They’re dying to save the world.
What it’s about
Task Force X pulls its members from Belle Reve prison: superpowered inmates and dangerous criminals. A government agent sends them to the island nation of Corto Maltese, where a military coup has just taken place. Their mission is classified, and the stakes are life or death—each member carries an explosive device implanted in their skull to prevent escape.
What hooks you
Director James Gunn deliberately chose obscure, second-rate villains to capture the spirit of the original comics by John Ostrander, finding something tragic in characters who fail even at being bad. The cast includes Idris Elba as Bloodsport, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, and John Cena as Peacemaker. The film received four Saturn Award nominations, including Best Comic-to-Film Motion Picture and Best Supporting Actress for Robbie.
Who it’s for
It is a good pick for those who like action with a darkly comic edge, where antiheroes bicker as much as they fight. It will also suit viewers who enjoy ensemble casts of misfits thrown into impossible situations, with plenty of blood and monstrous threats.

Trivia
All facts 10
- James Gunn specifically made the film with little-known villains because he believed it would better convey the spirit and atmosphere of John Ostrander's original comics. Here is how he explained it: "I wanted to show second-tier villains, just like in the original comics. There is something tragic about it – in supervillains who, even in villainy, have not achieved much success."
- James Gunn mostly used practical effects. He himself said that it brings him pleasure after working on the films in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, which had a lot of computer graphics.
- An error was made in the domestic localization; in this case, the correct spelling is «Mission on Takeoff».
- According to director and screenwriter James Gunn, the largest sets in Warner Bros. history were built for the film.
- Director James Gunn compared the relationship between Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and Bloodsport (Idris Elba) to the comedy duo of Bud Abbott and Lou Costello.
- According to John Cena, James Gunn asked him not to read Peacemaker comics before filming. As a result, Cena began performing the role in the style of a tough sergeant from the film "Full Metal Jacket," but Gunn soon told him to play a more jokey, cocky, and overly familiar version of Captain America from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
