What it’s about
Rey has awakened to the Force and travels to find Luke Skywalker, the last Jedi, hoping he will teach her. He is unsettled by the strength of her abilities and reluctant to engage. Meanwhile, the Resistance, led by Leia Organa, prepares for battle against the First Order, which is now commanded by Kylo Ren after he turned to the dark side.

Rian Johnson directed this eighth episode, with Mark Hamill returning as Luke Skywalker and Carrie Fisher in her final role as Leia Organa. The film won three Saturn Awards, including Best Actor for Hamill and Best Writing for Johnson. - Filming of some scenes featuring Mark Hamill and Daisy Ridley took place in September 2015 on the rocky island of Skellig Michael, about 15 kilometers west of the coast of County Kerry, Ireland. In 2014, the final scene of the film «Star Wars: The Force Awakens» was also filmed there.
- Joaquin Phoenix turned down the role that Benicio del Toro played.
- Initially, director Rian Johnson was planned to direct «Star Wars: The Force Awakens». In the end, he directed «Star Wars: Episode 8».
- Ryan Johnson was so impressed by Henry King's films "Twelve O'Clock High" (1949) and Mikhail Kalatozov's "Letter Never Sent" (1959) that he organized screenings of them for the actors before filming.
