Arthur Christopher Orme Plummer was a Canadian actor of theater, film, and television. He was a two-time winner of the Emmy Awards (1977, 1994) and Tony Awards (1974, 1997), and a recipient of the Screen Actors Guild Award (2012), the Academy Award (2012), BAFTA (2012), the Golden Globe (2012), and the Independent Spirit Award (2012). He is best known for his roles in the films "The Sound of Music," "The Return of the Pink Panther," "12 Monkeys," "The Insider," "A Beautiful Mind," "National Treasure," "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus," "The Last Station," "Beginners," and "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo." For his role as Leo Tolstoy in the film "The Last Station" (2009), Christopher Plummer was nominated for the Academy Award and the Golden Globe, but lost to Christoph Waltz.

His portrayal of a 75-year-old homosexual, Hal, dying of cancer, in the tragicomedy "Beginners" (2010) brought Plummer his first Academy Award, Golden Globe, Independent Spirit Award, and BAFTA. He was the father of the famous actress Amanda Plummer.
