Biography

With parents in show business, it may come as no surprise that Sakura Ando became an actress and, moreover, later married an actor.

She was born to actor and director Eiji Okuda and celebrity Kazu Ando on February 18, 1986. Her great-grandfather was Prime Minister Tsuyoshi. Her older sister is director Momoko Ando. She saw her father on stage at the age of five and decided to become an actress as early as the second grade.

As a child she was often ill; her illness caused dizziness, balance problems, and sometimes her brain seemed to shut down. For her professional career she chose her mother's maiden name. Sono Sion cast her in his film "Love and Redemption" and gave her a big breakthrough on the big screen. For this role she received the Best Supporting Actress award at the 31st Yokohama Film Festival.

Previously, her father had cast her in his film "Kaze no Sototawa" ("Beyond the Wind") together with her mother and sister. Since then she has appeared in numerous films and television series and received several more awards.
