Vera Farmiga

American actress of theater, film and television of Ukrainian descent, film director and producer. Vera Farmiga began her acting career in the theater, and then in 1997 her film debut took place in the television film "Rose Hill."

Her first notable film role was that of drug addict and mother of two Irene Morrison in the drama film "Down to the Bone," which brought her a nomination for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead in 2005. After that she played one of the main roles in the crime drama "The Departed" (2006); for her role Farmiga received a nomination for the Empire Award for Best Female Newcomer and was nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture in 2007.

For her portrayal of Alex Goran in the drama film "Up in the Air" (2009), Vera Farmiga was nominated for the Academy Award, BAFTA, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2010.
