About the series

Good detectives, great partners.

What it’s about

Detective Charlie Hudson works major crimes in St. John's. His partner is Rex, a German Shepherd from the K9 unit whose previous handler was killed in the line of duty. Hudson took the dog in rather than see him put down, and now Rex's sharp nose and ears help close cases.

What hooks you

John Reardon plays Hudson, with Diesel vom Burgimwald as Rex. The series is a remake of the Austrian–Italian hit 'Kommissar Rex'. The police headquarters was actually filmed on a university campus, with students and staff alerted by text message before shoots.

Who it’s for

It suits viewers who like police procedurals with a light touch and a loyal animal sidekick. It also suits those who enjoy Canadian settings and stories built on an unusual partnership.

Trivia

  1. The police headquarters was actually filmed on the grounds of a university campus. Before filming began, students and staff were sent SMS messages about the presence of police on campus and that there was no cause for concern.
  2. The dog that played Rex was named Diesel von Burgimwald; in August 2024 he died during the filming of season 7, which led to a pause in work on the project. The role of Rex passed to the deceased dog's relatives (nephews) – Dillon and Dante.
