What it’s about
In 1940s Birmingham, amid the bombing of the Second World War, Tommy Shelby has been living in exile. His estranged son has followed him into a life of crime and is now caught up in a secret Nazi plot. Tommy must come back to the city he left behind to rescue his son and confront the consequences of his own legacy.
What hooks you
Cillian Murphy returns as Tommy Shelby, with Barry Keoghan as his son Duke and Rebecca Ferguson joining the cast. Director Tom Harper and screenwriter Steven Knight bring the gangster saga to a close. Murphy personally invited Keoghan to play Duke via text message. The film is set during the Second World War, when Birmingham is under bombardment.

- Rebecca Ferguson said in one interview that she agreed to work with Tom Harper in order to work alongside Cillian Murphy.
- The character of Harry Kirton (in the series Peaky Blinders, 2013-2022, he played Finn Shelby) does not appear on screen in this project. He is not even in the family photographs in the house of Tommy, played by Cillian Murphy. The actor himself refused to appear in this project, stating that he did not want to become an actor of one role. Screenwriter Steven Knight confirmed that this character is alive in the 1940s and lives in Liverpool, although he is never even mentioned.
- Cillian Murphy invited Barry Keoghan to play Duke Shelby via text message. Keoghan texted Murphy to wish him a happy Father's Day, and Murphy responded by offering him the role.
