Deborah Kerr was a British actress, winner of a Golden Globe Award for the film "The King and I," as well as honorary Academy, BAFTA, and Cannes Film Festival awards. Deborah was nominated six times for an Academy Award for Best Actress, but never won in that category. Nevertheless, in 1994 the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presented her with an honorary Oscar for Lifetime Achievement.

The Scottish pronunciation of her surname sounds similar to English "care," but when she began her career in Hollywood, the producers decided that her surname should be pronounced like English "car." To avoid confusion, Louis B. Mayer even came up with the saying "Kerr rhymes with Star!"
